GIA stands for Gemological Institute of America. The GIA created the 4Cs grading system and is widely recognized for its diamond grading standards. Other well-known laboratories include IGI, AGS, GSI, and EGL. An independent gemological laboratory such as GIA issues a diamond grading report that includes important information about the diamond&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diamondhedge.com\/pages\/carat\">carat<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diamondhedge.com\/pages\/cut\">cut<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diamondhedge.com\/pages\/color\">color<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diamondhedge.com\/pages\/clarity\">clarity<\/a>. The report may also include details such as polish, symmetry, fluorescence, measurements, and a graphical representation showing the location of the diamond&#8217;s clarity characteristics.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOnce you have the GIA diamond grading report for an engagement ring, first look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diamondhedge.com\/pages\/cut\"><strong>Cut<\/strong><\/a> grade. This is one of the most important pieces of information because cut quality has a significant influence on a diamond&#8217;s brilliance and overall appearance. GIA grading is based on measurements and assessment of the individual diamond. You should also check the date on which the diamond was examined and review the report details carefully.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nNext, look for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diamondhedge.com\/pages\/carat\"><strong>Carat<\/strong><\/a> weight on the certificate. Very rare.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>VVS1-VVS2 &#8211; Very, Very Slightly Included:<\/strong> Minute inclusions that are difficult for a skilled grader to see under 10x magnification.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>VS1-VS2 &#8211; Very Slightly Included:<\/strong> Minor inclusions that range from difficult to somewhat easy for a skilled grader to see under 10x magnification.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>SI1-SI2 &#8211; Slightly Included:<\/strong> Noticeable inclusions that are relatively easy for a skilled grader to see under 10x magnification.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>I1-I2-I3 &#8211; Included:<\/strong> Inclusions that may be obvious under 10x magnification and can affect the diamond&#8217;s transparency, brilliance, and sometimes durability.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nFor many diamonds, clarity differences between adjacent grades may be difficult to notice with the naked eye. However, clarity can have a significant effect on a diamond&#8217;s rarity and price.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAs for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diamondhedge.com\/pages\/color\"><strong>Color<\/strong><\/a>, diamonds found in most jewelry range from colorless to near-colorless, with varying degrees of yellow or brown body color. Most people find it difficult to distinguish small differences between adjacent color grades without comparison.
